Michael (Mike) Rausch was born in Great Falls, Montana, on January 20, 1969. He grew up in a family of five boys working with his father in the family pest control business. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1987 as valedictorian and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1991, he graduated with high honors and received his B.A. degrees in Business Administration and French. After residing in Joué-les-Tours, France, for three months, he attended the University of Montana School of Law where in interned as a county prosecutor for Missoula County. He received his law degree in 1994 and was admitted to the Montana Bar that same year. Mike began his career prosecuting criminal and youth cases for Cascade County as a Deputy County Attorney. In 2000, he became the Senior Deputy County Attorney prosecuting homicides and other violent offenses and successfully prosecuted numerous jury trials. In 2001, he joined the law firm of Smith, Walsh, Clarke, and Gregoire, PLLP, as an associate litigation attorney. Mike became a partner with the firm in January, 2007. Mike is a member of the Cascade County Bar Association and the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers Association.
Practice Areas
Mike specializes in insurance defense litigation and represents both insureds and insurance companies. He has a general law practice involving wills and estates, adoptions, criminal defense, real estate, and contract law. He is admitted to practice in Montana State Courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana.
Personal Interests
Mike loves spending time with his wife, Amber, who is a kindergarten teacher in Great Falls. Mike is a father, friend, and chauffeur to his daughter, Hannah, who is actively involved in all aspects of school including music, drama, and dance. Each summer, Mike enjoys singing and acting with Hannah in musical productions produced by Pretty One Productions. Mike enjoys spending time at the lake, playing the piano, singing, and hiking.
Community Involvement
In 2007, Mike joined the CASA-CAN Board of Directors (Court Appointed Special Advocates) where he helps represent guardians-ad-litem who are the voices of children in abuse and neglect cases. He is presently the vice-president and the president-elect. Mike also sings with the Great Falls Symphonic Choir and has enjoyed performing since 2001. He is also an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Falls.
